I am very happy that some of you are starting to record your budgies since you have been to this site. I am finding it to be a very important part of them learning to talk in context and being understood. Surprisingly enough, many of the recordings I have received so far from people in the group are showing context speaking budgies. I am also finding that your budgies understand the concept of communicating through recordings extremely well. It must be part of their nature to communicate over long distances. So if your budgie is talking and babbling, he/she is probably saying and trying to communicate to you. The trick is learning how to understand them. Recording them and analyzing the recordings will help you do that. Once your budgie knows what he is saying is important enough for you to try and understand them, they begin talking in context instead of just mimicking. The reason most just mimic now is because many people only respond when they hear them repeat a mimicry and not when the try  and really communicate with us.

Here are some tips on understanding the recordings.

1. Once you record them the best way to understand them is by using your computer and analyzing the recording word for word and writing down what you understand.

2.  There is a program called Cool Edit that allows you to amplify, isolate certain sections of a recording and play it over and over again until it is clearer.

3.  If you don't understand it all just skip over it and move on to the part you do understand. When you are finished, go over it again and you should be able to pick up more.

4.  You will usually see a pattern starting to develop and a concept forming. Look at every sound and chirp that they make as part of the communication piece. It is almost like breaking a code.

5.  You may have to go over a recording 10 or more times before you get it all.

6.  If you do this consistently or at least one recording a day you will find that your budgie will be ecstatic and look forward to being recorded and talking about all kinds of wonderful things.

So really it depends on you. It takes a lot of work on our part though. Believe me when I say I have spent thousands of hours listening to and analyzing budgie recordings and found each one to be well worth the time and effort.  It has got to a point now that I can even understand them fairly well when they chirp the word out or mispronounce it. But that is a totally different level of understanding that takes years to accomplish. Some may or may not have an ear for it as well, but if you can understand Victors recordings then you should be able to learn to understand your own budgies as well.

Remember one thing though, if you just try and listen to them without recording them, you will only pick up about 5% of what they are saying and that usually equates to just the mimicries they use.

Good luck and let me know how things are going. Budgies are like people they need to be understood, however they are many more times sensitive than us and can withdraw over time if they can't communicate with someone. Let me know if you need any help once you record them.

Just a word of caution though, once you accept the fact that your budgie is communicating with you at a higher level, don't let the people factor set in to discourage you or change your mind.
